Large format scanning's carbon trail

So they've got ISO 14001 ...
... but what about the
carbon trail?

The Colortrac SmartLF main assemblies which are made in Suzhou, China, to ISO 14001 requirements are bought to the UK on the back of a huge carbon trail - and transported as finished products around the world via another one. Colortrac's good intentions show how difficult it is for a global manufacturer and distributor to fully address complex environmental isues in the modern, industrialised world.

Lest we be thought to be unfair to Colortrac, every wide format scanner has such a carbon trail. Contex's begins in Denmark, Image Access's in Germany and Graphtec's in Japan and China. All stretch around the world. All scanner manufacturers should have corporate responsibility plans to offset their carbon trails by planting trees or some other activity.

No large format scanner manufacturer or distributor can describe itself as "green" if it builds scanners to ISO 14001 standards and other voluntary and required specifications but then ignores the carbon trail of product transportation which stretches from the originating factory to distributors' warehouse, on to the resellers' showrooms and finally into the users air-conditioned office.

Which manufacturers have a corporate responsibilty program to offset their distribution carbon trails?

None that we know of.
