What makes an environmentally friendly large format scanner?

The following must now be included in any list as a minumum:

  • ISO 14001 certification
  • Energy Star 2007 compliance
  • RoHS compliance
  • WEEE capability
  • Ethical, organic, bio-degradable packaging
  • Corporate responsibility program for the product's carbon trail


Any improvements are
an encouraging start, a
green shoot which we hope
will one day grow into a
mighty tree which people
will hug!

Most manufacturers have made a start and meet some or most of the requirements in the list above. For some, this is largely due to the fact that they have been forced to comply with legislation or see benefits for themselves in ISO 14001.

Whatever their motivation, given the sad state of the planet, any improvements are an encouraging start, a green shoot which we hope will one day grow into a mighty tree which people will hug! Now get on and do more! Sort out your carbon trail!

Wide format scanner manufacturers should look on the bright side. Their scanning products are considerably less hostile to the environment than large format printers with their inks, plastic cartridges and mountains of wasted paper!
