Littleton, CO, USA.

ANA Tech's Eagle SLI 3840 brings large format scanning to desktop; high performance scanner targets office environment.

ANA Tech (an Intergraph Division) today unveiled the latest in its Eagle line of color and monochrome scanners, a unit that incorporates imaging sensor technology to bring large format, cost effective black and white scanning to a broader market.

Weighing less than 100 pounds, the Eagle SLI 3840 (Straight Line Imaging) is built around a revolutionary large format optical sensor head that uses no cameras. This allows the units to capture an entire scan line of 15,200 pixels at a true resolution of 400 dots per inch. The optics are internally isolated from outside stresses through a patented three-point mounting technique only available with ANA Tech scanners.

"We listened to the market and what we heard was a need for a competitively priced product that would scan E-sized documents in under 20 seconds. The Eagle SLI3840 priced at $12,800 USA, $15,500 Europe (US Dollars) is a product that offers the accuracy and reliability of our larger scanners in a more compact unit; a product that any company could easily cost justify," said ANA Tech marketing director Gerald Kasten. "That product is the Eagle SLI 3840."

Scanning documents up to 40 inches (101.6 cm) in width with an active scan width of 38 inches, the Eagle SLI 3840 captures line art at variable resolutions from 50 to 800 dots per inch and 256 levels of grayscale.

It moreover performs on-board thresholding and deskewing of line art on various media forms, allowing the user to select several thresholding options from an easy-to- use software interface.

According to ANA Tech general manager Eugene Kleca, the image sensing technology used in the Eagle SLI 3840 is similar to that of facsimile machines and many popular small document scanners.

"We are the first company to stretch and enhance that technology in order to build a product that is capable of handling 38 inches (96.5 cm), rather than fax machines and scanners that can only handle 12 inches (30.5 cm)," Kleca said.

The Eagle SLI 3840, a pinch roller feed scanner, features a large diameter roller to minimize document skewing and ensure positive motion through the scanner. The self-contained image sensing head has no moving parts, and is permanently aligned at the factory for reliability and low maintenance requirements.

According to Kleca, a data communications link based on the SCSI II standard provides fast and reliable data transfer, enhancing the scanner's overall speed and practicality. He added that any PC with an ASPI ASPI - Advanced SCSI Programming Interface can communicate quickly and effectively with the Eagle SLI 3840.

The newest in the Eagle line of scanners was designed by the same award-winning design team that created the console-based Eagle 3640/4080 color and monochrome scanners. At a depth of only 17 inches (43.2 cm), the unit will fit easily on most table tops, making it ideal for smaller office environments or departments within larger organizations. Its international power system streamlines the installation process in most countries around the world.

In addition to offering the Eagle SLI 3840 in a complete package that includes all cables and software needed for the PC and Windows N/T environment, ANA Tech is providing customers with an unprecedented 18-month return to factory warranty program.

"This is the first program of its kind in the scanner industry that we know of," said Kasten.

The new Eagle SLI 3840 will also be a key strength in ANA Tech's marketing driven reseller channel, according to Skip Nusbaum, ANA Tech's North American Manager, Reseller Channel. "We're taking a 90's approach to resellers' relationships with manufacturers," Nusbaum said. "We listened to what the channel said, and they wanted a level playing field where the smaller companies had the same opportunities as the large ones. They want long-term relationships with manufacturers, and that's what we provide them."

ABOUT ANA TECH

Founded in 1981, ANA Tech was acquired by Intergraph in 1988. ANA Tech is a pioneer in the engineering and technical scanning marketplace and today offers a comprehensive line of high-resolution, large format scanners geared for volume production environments. ANA Tech hardware and software products are used in the aerospace, automotive, AEC, manufacturing, mapping/GIS and utility applications at hundreds of sites worldwide.

ANA TECH AT A GLANCE

The Company

ANA Tech, an Intergraph Division, designs, manufactures and markets both color and monochrome large format production scanners to a wide spectrum of market segments. In addition to its strong presence in the traditional A/E/C markets, the company has also gained momentum in the mapping/GIS, CAD/CAM, utilities, transportation and government industries, as those areas increasingly commit to electronic document management.

Products

  • The Eagle 3640C color scanner, priced for affordability in both workstation and high-end PC markets, concurrently scans, classifies, compresses and saves to disk original color documents up to 41 inches (104.1 cm) wide, maximum scan width 36 inches, with a realscan resolution of 400 dpi.
  • The Eagle 3640 monochrome scanner, offering true 400 dpi and interpolated 800 dpi resolutions, is designed for document management applications in manufacturing, design engineering, A/E/C and government markets, among others. It additionally offers 8-bit grayscale, 256 levels of grayscale data and advanced CCD data capture.
  • The Eagle 4080C color scanner, priced at less than half the cost of drum-type scanners, concurrently scans, classifies, compresses and saves to disk original color documents up to 41 inches (104.1 cm) wide, maximum scan width 40 inches (101.6 cm), with a real scan resolution of 800 dpi.
  • The Eagle 4080ET monochrome scanner offers a real scan resolution of 800 dpi and an interpolated resolution up to 1600 dpi to users in the GIS/mapping markets. It additionally offers 8-bit grayscale, 256 levels of grayscale data and advanced CCD data capture.
