Contex, CalComp, GTX, Cyco Announce SEA Initiative -
Leading CAD Companies Provide Total Solution of Scanning, Editing and Archiving

Contex, CalComp Technology Inc. (Nasdaq:CLCP), GTX and Cyco Software, Monday announced the SEA Initiative.

The four companies have joined forces to promote an integrated solution of scanning, editing and archiving. CalComp and Contex will contribute their line of scanning products, GTX will provide their editing software and Cyco archiving tools will be utilized in this initiative. This endeavor will allow current legacy paper drawings to become useful electronic information.

Contex, CalComp, GTX and Cyco have established this alliance in an effort to

  • promote scanning, editing and archiving as a total solution to businesses around the world. The initiative will consist of joint educational material, marketing campaigns, reseller seminars and mutual product support.

In the era of engineering automation, it's crucial for engineers to have complete access to existing legacy data as well as current electronic data. The SEA system offers engineers a powerful solution for bringing legacy data online.

"Contex is proud to be a founding member of this initiative," said Steen Borg, director of sales and marketing for Contex. "It acknowledges the Contex product as the starting point of the automated design production cycle."

Contex Scanning Technology is the world's largest manufacturer of large format (A0/E size) color and monochrome scanners. Contex has a major share of the large-format scanning market with a range of 16-color and monochrome scanners with resolutions ranging from 300 dpi to 1800 dpi.

"In addition to offering dealers and resellers an integrated marketing program for a complete solution, this initiative will also expand opportunities for sales," said Rob Falkner, product marketing manager, CalComp.

CalComp Technology is a leading developer and manufacturer of computer graphics peripherals and supplies, for personal, business and professional applications. As an industry leader in piezo inkjet technology, CalComp develops image marking systems and components which support advanced digital printing applications. Corporate offices are located in Anaheim, Calif. For more information, visit the CalComp Web site at www.calcomp.com, or call 800/458-5888.

"This is a unique opportunity for all of the involved companies to promote their products as an integrated solution for the benefit of the engineering community," said Bob Brown, managing director of GTX Europe.

GTX is the leading supplier of scan-conversion and editing products that provide complete integration and interfacing between scanned drawing archives and CAD systems. In 1987, GTX introduced the first operative software and hardware product that successfully provided scanning of paper and aperture card technical drawings and automatic conversion of the scanned images (raster) to computer-aided design/drafting (CAD) format.

Today, GTX provides software-only solutions, including raster, vector and hybrid editing, and raster-to-vector conversion with Intelligent Character Recognition capabilities. Products include the Autodesk compatible GTXRaster CAD series and the stand alone GTXImage CAD series.

"The SEA Initiative makes sense. It offers users and resellers a fully integrated solution," said Rob Steenbrink, president of Cyco Software.

With an installed base of more than 175,000 users, Cyco Software is the market leader in CAD and engineering document management solutions for the Windows 95 and NT platforms. Cyco works together with solution partners, resellers and customers around the world in a continued effort to develop and market unparalleled document management software for the global engineering community.

AutoManager(R) WorkFlow, Cyco's flagship product, is a highly customizable document management and application integration software package that manages CAD drawings, spreadsheets, memos, scanned images and their related data throughout their life cycle. Cyco also markets AutoManager(R) View that provides fast viewing and mailing of CAD and office electronic documents. Users can view, print, compare, mail and redline more than 200 other word processing, database/spreadsheet, raster, graphics and CAD formats.

SEA Initiative white papers are available upon request.
