Deskan 6 scanning system
Shapemakers Creative Solutions is the Australian manufacturer of the Deskan 6, the world's most affordable wide format scanner.
The Deskan 6 scanning system offers cost-conscious CAD / CNC users with relatively low volume, large format scanning requirements an affordable large format colour scanning capability. It is unique in that it uses an A4 motorised scanner head to capture up to A0 or E-size drawings in strips which are transparently and automatically joined together by image stitching commands included in the scanning software.
Now in its 10th year, the Deskan 6 wide format scanning system is well-proven and used in over 60 countries around the world. Increasingly, however, Shapemakers see the Deskan's future in scan-to-vector solutions such as their new and innovative Deskan Fastparts. This provides CNC engineers with an affordable, flexible and reliable scan-to-vector solution for reverse engineering parts quickly and cost-effectively.
Deskan Fastparts
The CNC market is one that Shapemakers know well. As a leading Australian CNC engineering company based in Brisbane, QLD, Shapemakers machine their own precision engineered materials and components for use in the Deskan 6 scanning system.
Shapemakers is aware that for many CNC companies reproducing profiles and shapes, like those of a gasket, seal and or artwork, into a cutting file is a time consuming process. As a result, Shapemakers has developed Deskan FastParts to eliminate the need for hand measuring and redrawing. It allows the user to automatically scan and convert old drawings, gaskets and seals, etc, into CAD-editable, ready-to-cut DXF files.
With the Deskan FastParts solution it is possible to scan parts up to 1180 x 870mm and bigger. In addition, the Deskan system can be supplied with a custom-built table that raises or lowers the scanning surface to allow thick items up to 200mm thick to be scanned. Users are able to scan and vectorise parts in as little as five minutes. Once a part is vectorised, a .DXF file can be sent to a cutting application for accurate reproduction.
Deskan FastParts is supplied with Softcover's Scan2CAD vectorisation software. Scan2CAD is the leading automatic raster to vector conversion program for turning scanned (raster) images into DXF (vector) files suitable for editing in any PC CAD or CNC program. Scan2CAD can be used with a wide range of different drawing types, from architecture to woodwork. Shapemakers are the Australian distributors of Scan2CAD.
Ian Ferrier, managing director of Shapemakers Creative Solutions, said "Because we developed Deskan FastParts in-house for our own use, it is designed to solve real world reverse engineering problems, like those of duplicating existing parts, specifically gaskets, seals and artwork. Deskan Fastparts will scan a component up to A0/E-size, vectorise the part and cut it out by machine quickly and easily with minimal knowledge of either scanning or vectorisation. It works great on our shop floor. It is now an equally useful tool among a growing number of CNC companies!".
